In the wake of the devastating floods of 2022 that ravaged Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan, displacing millions and leaving countless families without shelter, Tanboo Goth,  meaning “Tent Village” was established in Jamshoro, Sindh. Spanning over 600 acres, this emergency settlement was created to offer immediate relief to those who had lost everything.

Conceived and managed by Lok Sahaita in collaboration with the Sindh Police and the Divisional Administration of Hyderabad, Tanboo Goth provided critical services including shelter, food, healthcare, and psychosocial support. What began as a relief effort quickly evolved into a symbol of resilience, compassion, and collective strength.

At its peak, Tanboo Goth housed over 24,000 displaced individuals, offering not just temporary refuge, but a sense of dignity and hope amid crisis.

The initiative stands as a powerful example of how rapid coordination, community engagement, and institutional support can transform emergency response into meaningful recovery.

Water Access
Access to clean drinking water was one of the most urgent needs. Filtration plants, mobile water units, and bottled water distribution were deployed to ensure safe water for thousands of displaced individuals.

Food Support
Daily hot meals were served through partnerships with organizations such as the Bahria Town Foundation and Saylani Welfare Trust. These efforts played a critical role in combating food insecurity during the height of the crisis.

Shelter Solutions
Tents and temporary shelters were distributed regularly to families in need. While the demand often exceeded supply, these efforts provided immediate relief to many.

Healthcare Facilities
Three clinics operated within Tanboo Goth, offering essential medical care. Visiting specialists frequently addressed critical health concerns, including maternal health, infectious diseases, and trauma recovery.

Education Services
Tent schools were established to provide basic education for children whose schooling had been disrupted by the floods. These makeshift classrooms created a sense of normalcy and continuity for displaced youth.

Security and Protection
The Sindh Police maintained round-the-clock security throughout the settlement. Their presence helped ensure the safety of both residents and aid workers in a time of great vulnerability.

Return and Rehabilitation
As the immediate crisis stabilized, programs were launched to support families returning to their home villages. Assistance included transportation, rebuilding workshops, and rehabilitation support to help restore livelihoods.
